ONI Zero: Reboot Remake Set for Spring 2027 on Nintendo Switch

Mebius announced on September 11, 2026, that ONI Zero ~Fukkatsu~ Reboot (《ONI零~复活~》Reboot) is coming to Nintendo Switch in Spring 2027. The project is a remastered and optimized version of the 2001 RPG ONI Zero ~Fukkatsu~, originally released by PandoraBox. According to the announcement, the update is designed to give players a smoother overall play experience compared with the original release. The confirmation ends speculation about the long-dormant Japanese supernatural RPG, which is now confirmed for Nintendo’s hybrid platform next spring.
Beyond visual and performance improvements, the Reboot version will add new story events written by the original creator, Iijima Takaya (饭岛多纪哉). The announcement also confirms newly added battle music composed for the remake. These additions are intended to complement the existing content of the 2001 original rather than replace it. Mebius describes the overall goal as optimization and refinement, positioning the project as a remake that preserves the source material while delivering a more fluid experience for players returning to the title.

The original ONI Zero ~Fukkatsu~ was a Japanese-style turn-based traditional RPG and the sixth entry in the PANDORA MAX SERIES. It also served as the final mainline ONI game developed by PandoraBox. The wider ONI franchise began with the Game Boy title Oni Ninja Demon-Slaying Record ONI (鬼忍降魔録ONI) and later spanned the Game Boy, Super Famicom, and PlayStation platforms, building a following as a Japanese folk-fantasy IP during the 1990s. Within older fan circles, the series is remembered as a well-regarded niche title.

The game will appear at Tokyo Game Show 2026, running from September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe, where attendees can try a playable demo. Visitors who test the demo on-site will receive a clear file as a gift. The source notes that the original was praised for Iijima Takaya’s heavy folkloric storytelling, while its slower pacing and relatively simple battle system kept it from becoming a breakout hit. For longtime fans of the series, this revival is certainly one to watch. 🎮
