Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Reveals Khezu Return at TGS 2026
Capcom showcased the world’s first hands-on gameplay demonstration of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the large-scale expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, during a stage live event at its Tokyo Game Show 2026 booth. The event runs from September 17 to 21, 2026, with the 17th and 18th designated as business days. During the demonstration, Capcom confirmed that the Flying Wyvern Khezu will appear in the expansion. The reveal arrived unexpectedly while the team was demonstrating a hunting quest against the new monster Araketa.
Khezu, known as the “Strange Wyvern,” is a Flying Wyvern species making its return to the series after an absence. Its comeback was confirmed through live gameplay rather than a dedicated trailer. As the player fought the new monster Araketa inside a cave, Khezu’s head suddenly extended from the wall and unleashed a lightning breath attack. The creature’s full body was shown afterward, confirming more than a brief cameo appearance.
The gameplay demonstration took place in a new field called the Kumoi Ruins. Within this area’s cave, hunters were shown battling the new monster Araketa. It was during that encounter that Khezu made its surprise entrance, stretching its neck out from the cave wall. The enclosed cave environment appears central to how the encounter was staged, with the monster emerging directly from the terrain rather than approaching from open ground.
The reveal unfolded at Capcom’s booth stage live event during Tokyo Game Show 2026, where the expansion received its world-first playable demonstration. Khezu joins the roster alongside the newly introduced Araketa, which was the focus of the demonstrated quest before the interruption. Capcom has not detailed a release date or additional platforms for the expansion beyond this demonstration. For longtime fans of the series, seeing a classic Strange Wyvern staged as a living cave hazard is a welcome, and genuinely surprising, return.
