Kotobukiya’s Horror Bishoujo Sadako Figure Returns in 2027

Preorders have opened for a re-release of Kotobukiya’s “HORROR Bishoujo Sadako” figure, with retailer amiami now accepting reservations ahead of a scheduled May 2027 shipping window. The figure carries a tax-inclusive price of 18,810 yen, equivalent to roughly $125 (~¥890). The piece belongs to Kotobukiya’s BISHOUJO series, in which illustrator Shunya Yamashita reinterprets female characters drawn from film, games, and manga through his own personal lens. This particular re-release centers on Sadako, the iconic Japanese horror character from the Ring franchise.
Buyers receive two alternate face parts that change how the character is presented. One version hides the face entirely behind long black hair, preserving the character’s most recognizable silhouette. The second option exposes both eyes peeking through gaps in the strands. This duality lets collectors display the figure as either an anonymous, menacing presence or a more direct, unsettling stare, depending on preference.

According to the product description, the white dress is produced in a translucent material designed to simulate the look of fabric soaked by well water and clinging to the skin. The fingernails and toenails were sculpted to reflect the setting that Sadako’s nails were torn away as she struggled at the bottom of the well, then finished with coloring that resembles red nail polish. These small details aim to keep the figure faithful to the character’s established backstory.

The base places Sadako floating above a stack of videotapes, a pose intended to express her supernatural abilities. A strip of magnetic tape extending from one cassette case can be manually adjusted into different shapes. The set also includes two decorative tape strips stored in a dedicated videotape-shaped box, which itself conceals one abnormal-looking tape. For longtime horror collectors, the attention to these small props is arguably the strongest selling point of the package.
