Huawei Debuts Mate XT 2 Tri-Fold and HarmonyOS 7 as Andy Lau Attends
On the afternoon of September 7, 2026, Huawei held its HarmonyOS 7 | HUAWEI Mate XT 2 All-Scenario New Product Launch event. Huawei Executive Director Yu Chengdong confirmed that brand ambassador Andy Lau (刘德华) attended in person. The centerpiece of the conference was the second-generation tri-fold flagship, the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design edition. Alongside the phone, Huawei detailed the next-generation HarmonyOS 7 platform and unveiled additional ecosystem products, making the showcase a combined hardware and software reveal.
The Mate XT 2 introduces an all-new U-shaped dual-inward-folding wing design. When the handset is closed, its main screen is completely wrapped and shielded. A newly added independent external display handles routine operations, letting users interact with the phone without opening it up. Huawei frames the layout as a second-generation step for its tri-fold lineup, protecting the large interior panel while keeping everyday usability simple.
The Mate XT 2 continues Huawei’s signature Star Diamond design language, launching in a ‘Jin Purple’ (锦紫) colorway that incorporates traditional gold-woven cloud brocade craftsmanship, with the shade said to evoke the auspicious phrase ‘purple qi from the east.’ On durability, the phone carries a hardware-level ‘Ling Dun’ anti-peep screen and a newly developed Tiangong hinge, which Huawei says allow extreme protection and slimness within its 3.5mm ultra-thin body. The combination of heritage-inspired aesthetics and reinforced mechanics forms the core appeal of the new flagship’s exterior.
On the software side, HarmonyOS 7 officially enters the ‘Agent intelligent agent’ era. System-level assistant XiaoYi has been comprehensively upgraded and can automatically execute complex tasks across multiple applications, while AI anti-fraud, privacy management and seamless multi-device flow are all significantly strengthened. Beyond the phone, Huawei unveiled the Pura X View, described as the world’s first ‘wide bar-type’ handset, alongside the MatePad Air tablet, FreeBuds 7 YueZhang earphones and WATCH 6 series smartwatch, rounding out its all-scenario ecosystem lineup. Whether this debut marks the ultimate form of tri-fold design or the true starting point of AI phones is a question Huawei itself raised — and one to watch as these products reach users.
