GTA 6 Reveal Hits 3.97M Peak Viewers, Sets 2026 Livestream Record
Grand Theft Auto VI’s first major gameplay reveal has made streaming history. According to Eurogamer, “streamer reaction” livestreams covering the showcase — dubbed “a substantial glimpse” — reached a combined peak of 3,970,738 concurrent viewers across streaming platforms, the highest total recorded for game livestreams in 2026 so far. Data from Streams Charts shows that 9,038 streamers broadcast or reacted to Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 content, which premiered on a major streaming service, generating 5,227,798 hours of cumulative watch time. The single showcase has quickly become one of the most-watched gaming events of the year.
The 3.97 million peak surpasses the 3.81 million recorded at Summer Game Fest 2026 and also exceeds concurrent viewership for June’s Nintendo Direct and Sony State of Play presentations. In platform distribution, one streaming service contributed roughly 44% of total watch time to rank first, followed by another at 34.8% and a third at 20.2%. Among individual broadcasters, Spanish streamer Juan Alberto García (IlloJuan) drew the highest peak audience of 233,520 viewers, setting a personal channel record. Rubius followed with 191,056, while IShowSpeed attracted 177,887.
The premiere drew such a massive influx of viewers that technical failures hit the streaming services, with some users reporting they could not watch normally for 40 to 50 minutes. The issues did little to cool discussion, however. Streams Charts logged more than 100,000 related chat messages within a three-hour window, of which 65% to 72% were neutral, 11% to 15% positive, and roughly 17% to 20% negative — with many negative remarks aimed at platform outages rather than the game itself. About one in five messages compared the showcase with Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, with sentiment leaning negative; one viewer joked about “GTA V DLC selling for $80.”
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This week’s extensive reveal also outlined more game details, including an adjusted wanted system and vehicle jacking mechanics, a new romance system, a sprawling game world, and a wide range of in-game activities. With streaming records already in the books and a dense feature list on display, the November launch looks set to be one of the biggest gaming events of the year — definitely one to watch for fans of the series.
