Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Demo Launches on Switch 2 and Xbox With Save Transfer

Square Enix has released the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo for Switch 2 and Xbox platforms, giving players on both consoles their first hands-on experience with the acclaimed RPG ahead of its full launch. The demo covers the opening chapters of the game, beginning with Cloud’s recollection of the Nibelheim incident and continuing into the party’s adventures in the town of Kalm. All progress made in the trial version will carry over when the full game launches on June 3, ensuring a seamless transition for players who start early.
The demo includes two chapters: Chapter One revisits Cloud’s traumatic memories of the Nibelheim fire incident, while Chapter Two follows the main party’s story in Kalm, picking up directly from the ending of Final Fantasy VII Remake. This structure gives newcomers and returning players alike a substantial preview of the adventure ahead. The save data transfer feature means players can continue exactly where they left off upon purchasing the full version, eliminating any need to replay content.

The technical experience varies between platforms. On Switch 2, the game leverages DLSS upscaling technology, achieving visuals comparable to the PS4 original in handheld mode with a stable 30 frames per second. Xbox Series X players can access a performance mode that brings visual quality closer to the PS5 version. Storage requirements differ significantly, with the Switch 2 version requiring 45.1GB while the Xbox Series X version demands 91.17GB of available space.

Digital pre-orders come with the Posh Chocobo summon materia, while Switch 2 physical pre-orders include an exclusive bonus: a Zack Fair limited-edition Magic: The Gathering card illustrated by renowned character designer Tetsuya Nomura. The demo is currently available on Western digital storefronts for both Switch 2 and Xbox platforms, with Asian region players expected to receive access shortly. With solid technical performance and generous pre-order incentives, this demo launch gives both platforms a strong reason to revisit Midgar before the full release.
