Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Reveals Airship and Rocket Town Details

Square Enix has released a wealth of new information regarding Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final installment of the remake trilogy. Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently sat down with VGC to discuss the game’s core airship mechanics, the fate of the Rocket Town segment, and the overall vision for the conclusion. Among the most notable reveals is the early unlock window for the iconic airship Highwind, along with confirmation that the team has eliminated all invisible walls for true planetary exploration. Hamaguchi also addressed fan concerns regarding cut content, confirming that the Rocket Town sequence has been repositioned rather than removed.
According to Hamaguchi, players can gain full control of the Highwind approximately four to six hours into the game, depending on individual playstyle and skill level. He emphasized that these early hours are packed with substantial original content, assuring players they are far from filler. The development team identified seamless air-to-ground transitions as the single biggest technical challenge, but the final result allows players to descend from tens of thousands of meters to any landing point without a single loading screen. Crucially, the team has abandoned invisible wall barriers entirely, meaning players can fly in a single direction and loop continuously around the planet.

Addressing speculation about missing content, Hamaguchi confirmed that the Rocket Town segment was originally planned for inclusion in the second title, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. However, it was ultimately moved to the middle-to-late stages of the third game to better serve the overarching narrative structure. He stated that Rocket Town will now feature a more substantial, dedicated storyline. The director reiterated the trilogy’s guiding philosophy: to preserve as close to 100 percent of the original game’s iconic scenes as possible, with no arbitrary cuts to beloved content.

While Hamaguchi refrained from sharing any specific spoilers regarding the finale, he did confirm that the grand scope of the ending was established early in the development process. Producer Yoshinori Kitase’s core vision for the world and its themes has been fully realized and is present in the final conclusion. The team remains committed to delivering a satisfying payoff that honors the legacy of the original. With these latest details, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is shaping up to be an ambitious send-off for one of gaming’s most celebrated trilogies.
