Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Reveals Hard Mode and Switch 2 Details
Capcom is showcasing Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen at Tokyo Game Show 2026, running September 17–21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The playable demo is available at the Capcom booth ahead of the game’s October 9, 2026 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. In a newly published interview, director Kento Kinoshita and producer Naoto Oyama discussed the upcoming Dark Arisen expansion, covering its challenging Hard Mode, Nintendo Switch 2 performance targets, and the new Nolgan region.
According to the developers, Hard Mode will arrive as a free title update to the base game on October 9, coinciding with the Dark Arisen release, and it applies to the DLC as well. Players can switch from Normal to Hard Mode at any point during their adventure. However, reverting from Hard back to Normal requires either clearing the game or using a new “return to the story’s beginning at any time” feature added at launch. The title update also increases the number of save slots, letting players preserve existing data while starting a fresh playthrough.
On Nintendo Switch 2, the base frame rate targets 30fps in both handheld and TV modes. Enabling frame generation interpolates frames to deliver a smooth, 60fps-equivalent image. The team noted that because the system calculates in-between frames, some situations may leave slight ghosting artifacts, though overall play feel is largely preserved. Players who prioritize frame rate can toggle the feature on or off in the retail version, while the TGS demo keeps it fixed on. Oyama stated this marks Capcom’s first attempt at using the technology on Nintendo Switch 2.
The Dark Arisen expansion introduces the new region of Nolgan. The Evil Eye enemy appears within the 12 dungeons of the Forgotten Trials, while other monsters roam Nolgan’s fields. The TGS demo offers three missions against the otherworldly dragon, Fimbul, and the Griffin. Story-wise, Ael joins the player’s four-person party as a fifth member rather than replacing anyone. Action skill slots increase from four to six, and Nolgan’s cold region brings unique gimmicks. High-level official Pawns have also been added for the journey. For series veterans, this update looks like a substantial reason to return.
