Diablo 30th Anniversary Reveals Major Expansion and Two New Classes

Blizzard Entertainment has officially kicked off the Diablo series’ 30th anniversary celebration with a major livestream event, revealing substantial updates across multiple titles in the franchise. The highlight announcement was the “Lord of Hatred” expansion for Diablo 4, scheduled to launch on April 28, 2026 across Xbox, PS5, and PC platforms. The expansion introduces two new character classes—the previously announced Paladin and the newly revealed Sorceress—which are designed to complement existing classes with light and dark thematic elements. This comprehensive update represents Blizzard’s commitment to expanding the Diablo universe during its milestone year.
The Lord of Hatred expansion brings significant gameplay system overhauls including a complete skill tree rework, new skill branches for each class, and increased level caps. Players can expect new endgame systems such as the “Dark Fortress” raid mode and “Echo of Hatred” endless horde challenges, which support customizable difficulty modifiers and four-player cooperative puzzle-solving. Additional content includes new Rune Words like “Hammer of Holy Light” and “Phoenix Wings,” equipment sets, and oversized unique amulets designed to deepen combat strategy. The Paladin class will be available through pre-order, while the Sorceress features a dual-form switching mechanism with poison, bone, and curse specializations.

Major quality-of-life improvements accompany the expansion, including storage space expansion from 6×8 slots to 10×10 slots and full cross-platform progression support between PC, Xbox, and PS5. New systems include a customizable loot filter and the “Chronicle” equipment collection tracking system. Endgame content expands with the “Fear Herald” stealth enemies and the ultimate trial boss “Giant Ancient.” The separate “Sorceress Ascendant” expansion pack introduces the Sorceress class alongside 20 new Rune Words, exclusive unique equipment, and new sets. System upgrades also bring the “Wing Refinement” feature and anniversary benefits.

Beyond the immediate expansion, the announcement teased a tenth mysterious class described as a “dangerous warrior in the shadows” alongside new regions and antagonists, with the story delving deeper into a world of corruption, conflict, and consequences. The development team will conduct Q&A sessions through official channels to address player concerns. Notably, World of Warcraft players who purchase the Sorceress Ascendant expansion will receive the Horadric Cube housing decoration furniture, creating cross-game integration. With these substantial updates across Diablo 4, Diablo 2: Resurrected, and Diablo Immortal, Blizzard is positioning 2026 as a pivotal year for the franchise’s evolution and long-term growth strategy.
