Destiny 2’s Shadow and Order Update Delayed to June with Major Revisions
Bungie has officially delayed Destiny 2’s next major update, previously titled Shadow and Order, from its original March 3 release date to June 9, 2026. The delay represents a three-and-a-half month postponement as the developer implements what it calls “large revisions” to the update. According to an official statement from Bungie’s Destiny 2 Bluesky account, the update is being changed and expanded to include sizable quality-of-life improvements, which has necessitated both the delay and a complete renaming of the content package. This comes amid reports of dwindling player numbers for Destiny 2 and the upcoming release of Bungie’s new shooter Marathon on March 5.
“Our next Major Update, Destiny 2: Shadow and Order, is undergoing large revisions and will be delayed,” reads the official statement. “This update is being changed and expanded to include sizable quality-of-life updates and as a result, will also be renamed. This update will now launch on June 9, 2026.” The announcement confirms earlier reports from gaming media that suggested a delay was imminent, though the final delay period turned out to be longer than initially speculated. Bungie had remained unusually quiet about the update’s status in recent weeks, fueling speculation among the Destiny 2 community.
Bungie provided some details about what players can expect from the revised update, mentioning previously announced Weapon Tier Upgrading alongside new additions. These include expanding Tiered Gear to all Raid and Dungeon activities, implementing Pantheon 2.0, and introducing Tier 5 stats for Exotic Armors. The studio also stated it will continue to provide bug and performance fixes throughout June, along with portal modifiers, the Guardian Games event in March, and a more frequent Iron Banner cadence. The delay comes at a challenging time for Destiny 2, with player numbers reportedly declining in recent months.
