Cyberpunk 2077 2.5 Update Adds Dual Wielding and Edgerunners Tie-In

Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.5 update arrived on October 22, adding a mix of combat, story and cosmetic content to Night City. The headline addition is dual-wielded pistols, a feature players had been requesting for some time, alongside a crossover with the second season of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime. Two new side jobs, expanded cyberware appearance options and fresh photo mode tools round out the patch. The update is free, and the crossover quests are designed to be playable even by those who have not watched the anime.
Dual wielding unlocks once the player’s Cool attribute reaches level 9 and the “Double Trouble” perk is purchased in the skill tree, allowing a kinetic pistol or revolver to be equipped in each hand from the weapon wheel. Only those two weapon types are supported for now, and each gun deals 37.5% less damage while recoil rises noticeably. Rank two of the perk unlocks the Haywood Hurricane, which fires a one-second automatic dual burst on R3 and can consume stacks built up through the Triple Tequila knockdown mechanic for extra damage, creating a kill, stack, burst loop.

The core crossover job, “Clampdown,” is set before the events of Edgerunners 2 and sees V coordinate with new anime character King over comms to break into a large prison area of Night City that had never been accessible before, in order to rescue King’s companions. The quest runs 20 to 30 minutes with full voice acting and dedicated scenes. A second job, “Welcome to Paradise!,” is a looser, longer city tour narrated by Night City founder Richard Night. Completion rewards a five-piece King-themed gear set and a new weapon. Season two of the anime proved divisive, opening at 5.9 on Douban before falling to 5.6, against 9.0 for season one, while Rotten Tomatoes freshness held at 100%, with IGN scoring it 9 and CGMagazine 10.

Five new customization clinics have opened across Night City, each with its own opening animation, voice work and color scheme, letting players recolor Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and the Projectile Launch System. The update also adds five new outfits, including the NUS Infiltrator set sold in Kabuki or Japantown, and opens several hairstyles previously limited to NPCs. Photo mode gains Cyberpunk TCG-styled frames and dual-wield poses. For players invested in dual pistols, the anime tie-in or Night City fashion, 2.5 offers a substantial reason to return, and this editor’s take is that the free quest content alone justifies the download.
