Crimson Desert DLC Adds Full Romance and Marriage System Details

The new Crimson Desert expansion, titled Exploring the Unknown, introduces a romance and marriage system that lets players court and wed the majority of NPCs across the Pywel region. The feature is set up as its own progression track rather than an extension of the base game’s existing NPC affinity mechanic. According to the report, even players who have already maxed out a character’s standard affinity must build the romance-specific meter from scratch, meaning long-standing goodwill alone will not unlock a relationship. Few other details about the DLC’s content have been shared.
Earning a partner’s hand requires consistent effort rather than a single gift. Players advance the relationship by repeatedly flirting with the target NPC, handing over presents, and recounting shared adventures. The romance meter must reach a full 100 points before a proposal becomes available. Attempting to propose early is refused outright and also deducts 15 points from the character’s affinity toward the player. Affection is handled collectively across protagonists, so flirting with an NPC as one character will reduce that NPC’s opinion of the other playable characters.

Not every relationship starts on equal footing. Certain special NPCs only open their romance line after a prerequisite quest has been completed, and a small number of characters cannot be romanced at all. Once a marriage is finalized, the spouse becomes a permanent fixture on the map. They can be summoned to travel alongside the player as a companion and will periodically hand over small gifts. At other times they stay at the Greman camp or at a residence the player has built.

The system also keeps a few cosmetic and logistical options open after the wedding. Spouses can have their appearance adjusted at the barber shop, letting players tweak how their partner looks. Couples can later file for divorce through an interaction menu, with no apparent barrier beyond the menu itself. That combination of easy summons, free appearance changes, and simple separation makes the system one of the more flexible takes on in-game marriage. It will be interesting to see how players react when the DLC arrives.
