Capcom’s ‘Existence’ Showcases Full Path Tracing and DLSS 4 in NVIDIA RTX Demo

Capcom’s upcoming sci-fi action game 《识质存在》(Existence) launches globally tomorrow, April 17, 2026, and NVIDIA has released an official RTX technology showcase video demonstrating the game’s advanced graphical features. The video highlights the deep technical collaboration between Capcom and NVIDIA, focusing on the implementation of full path tracing and DLSS 4 technology in the PC version. This partnership aims to deliver highly realistic visuals and exceptional performance, showcasing what’s possible when cutting-edge rendering techniques are integrated from the ground up rather than added as post-launch features.
《识质存在》 has completely abandoned traditional rasterization rendering in favor of full path tracing technology. This approach simulates the complete physical path of light from its source, through multiple bounces, across different materials, and finally into the camera lens. Unlike traditional ray tracing which selectively calculates shadows and reflections, path tracing uniformly handles global illumination, indirect lighting, diffuse reflections, refraction, and bokeh effects. This results in a qualitative leap forward in lighting consistency, depth, and realism throughout the game’s environments.

The NVIDIA official trailer focuses on complex material scenes within the game’s lunar base setting, including metal, glass, and reflective panels. These environments serve as ideal demonstrations for how path tracing reshapes lighting logic. Metal surfaces display precise, distortion-free environmental reflections, with distant modules and equipment casting clear, dynamically changing reflections on polished floors. Sunlight refracts through transparent domes to create soft, natural diffuse lighting within enclosed spaces, moving away from the artificial feel of traditional baked lighting. Different materials like metal, glass, plastic, and lunar soil exhibit distinct lighting responses, enhancing physical authenticity and immersion.

Thanks to DLSS 4, the game maintains smooth performance despite its demanding full path tracing implementation. According to actual tests on an RTX 5090 platform, with DLSS 4 Quality mode and 4x frame generation enabled at 4K maximum path tracing settings, average frame rates reach 239 fps with minimum rates staying above 198 fps, delivering what NVIDIA describes as ‘esports-level smoothness.’ 《识质存在》 is a sci-fi action-adventure game built on Capcom’s RE Engine, set in a near-future lunar research station where players control astronaut Hugh Williams and robot Diana as they combat a hostile AI and search for a way home in a disconnected space station. The technical showcase demonstrates how advanced rendering can elevate both visual fidelity and gameplay fluidity in modern titles.
