Besiege: Shattered Skies DLC Launches, Taking Physics Chaos Into Space

Spiderling Studios has released Besiege: Shattered Skies, the largest expansion pack ever created for the physics-based building and destruction game. For the first time, the franchise’s signature mechanical chaos is leaving Earth behind, as players strap rocket boosters onto their contraptions and blast off into the cosmos. The expansion transforms the game from a medieval siege simulator into a full-fledged spaceflight sandbox, introducing orbital mechanics, realistic atmospheric physics, and entirely new ways to build and destroy on a planetary scale.
At the heart of Shattered Skies is a full physics simulation covering orbital mechanics and atmospheric flight. Each planet, moon, and large asteroid generates its own gravitational field, allowing players to perform gravity assists between bodies, establish stable orbits, or smash a satellite into another object to create a cascading debris storm. Planetary surfaces are wrapped in atmospheres where wings and balloons generate lift, propellers provide thrust, and grid fins and parachutes slow down high-speed re-entries. However, improper re-entry angles or excessive speed can result in the spacecraft burning up in the atmosphere entirely.

The expansion introduces 13 modules designed specifically for spaceflight, including the Deflagration Cannon, a heavy weapon firing superheated fuel bursts at targets. Rocket Boosters provide liftoff thrust, while Control Thrusters and Inertial Steering handle rotational control. Rocket Fins, Grid Fins, and Parachutes improve aerodynamics for stable high-speed flight and controlled re-entry. For the first time in Besiege, Shattered Skies adds a resource management system through fuel. Players must balance fuel reserves against machine mass, using newly added fuel tanks, hoses, couplers, and fuel gauges to construct everything from basic rockets to multi-stage launch systems.

The expansion’s 11-mission campaign begins with launching from a starting island and escalates into increasingly bizarre scenarios, including besieging a fortress perched on a drifting asteroid, racing through canyons on a small desert planet, and fighting off alien spacecraft. The finale involves slamming an iron satellite into a planet to destroy it entirely. Beyond the campaign, an interstellar sandbox mode offers numerous planets, moons, and structures to explore and demolish. The game’s powerful level editor has also been extended to space, supporting creation with planets, enemies, and gravity fields for play in multiplayer. Besiege: Shattered Skies is now available on PC platform for $4 (~¥29), with the base game also seeing a promotional discount. The base game has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from over 47,000 user ratings. For fans of creative destruction and physics sandboxes, this expansion represents a bold new frontier for the long-running indie title.
