Barotrauma Home Port Expansion Reveals Gameplay, Coming Fall 2026

The underwater sci-fi survival game 《潜渊症》(Barotrauma) has revealed the first gameplay footage for its upcoming “Home Port” expansion, scheduled for release in Fall 2026. Developed by FakeFish and Undertow Games, the expansion introduces outpost ownership, base building, and management systems that fundamentally reshape the game’s ecosystem. Players’ crew squads can now capture, expand, or even seize outposts by force, transforming them into operational hubs with industrial, research, and population management capabilities. This marks a significant evolution for the game that has attracted over 2 million players since its early access launch in 2019.
The expansion’s new mechanics make outposts central to Barotrauma’s faction system and economic framework. Submarines navigating Europa’s depths will participate in trade and resource transportation, while faction territories expand or contract dynamically outside player view. This creates a living world that continues to evolve regardless of player involvement. The changes affect not just docking procedures but the entire gameplay ecosystem, with outposts serving as strategic assets that can be developed through industrial, scientific, and population management functions.

A completely new faction called “The Remnants” will join Barotrauma’s already turbulent ecosystem, bringing alien technology, body modifications, and unsettling unknown elements. Their introduction adds fresh threats to the game’s dangerous environment and opens new narrative chapters for the underwater survival experience. The faction’s arrival represents a significant addition to the game’s lore and gameplay dynamics, offering players new challenges and opportunities as they navigate Europa’s treacherous oceans.

Barotrauma is a sci-fi submarine simulation game set on Jupiter’s icy moon Europa, supporting both single-player campaigns and cooperative play for up to 16 players. After launching in early access in Summer 2019, the development team completely overhauled campaigns and tutorials while adding monsters, missions, outposts, and scripted event systems. The game reached its 1.0 release in March 2023 and continues to receive updates. Published by Daedalic Entertainment, which became a subsidiary of French publisher Nacon in April 2022, Barotrauma emphasizes mod support and maintains close communication with its player community. The Home Port expansion represents the next major evolution for this established underwater survival title, building on years of community-driven development.
