AMD RDNA 5 GPU Lineup Reportedly Arriving Ahead of Schedule in 2027


According to a new report from Moore’s Law Is Dead, AMD’s next-generation RDNA 5 graphics architecture may launch earlier than previously expected, with desktop GPU shipments potentially beginning in mid-2027. This would mark a significant shift from earlier projections that had both AMD and NVIDIA delaying their next-generation products to 2028 due to a global DRAM shortage. The report, citing OEM supply chain information, suggests AMD has revised its roadmap and is now aiming to bring RDNA 5 to market ahead of its competitor.
Earlier this month, reports indicated that both AMD and NVIDIA were pushing back their next-generation GPU launches to 2028 as a result of the ongoing global DRAM shortage. However, according to MLID’s OEM supply chain sources, AMD has changed its plans. A major OEM reportedly received notification that it may receive the first batch of RDNA 5 desktop graphics cards by mid-2027. Based on this timeline, consumer availability is expected before the end of 2027, giving AMD a potential first-mover advantage.

The rumored RDNA 5 launch timeline aligns closely with Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console, codenamed Helix. According to the report, Xbox Helix will feature an RDNA 5-based GPU and is expected to launch in late 2027. Both the console’s graphics chip and desktop mid-to-high-end RDNA 5 cards will reportedly share the same core die design. This parallel development approach could help AMD optimize costs and production efficiency across both PC and console markets.

NVIDIA is reportedly planning to release its RTX 50 Super series later this year or in Q1 2027, for which AMD currently has no direct competitor on the roadmap. An earlier RDNA 5 launch would allow AMD to counter the RTX 50 Super lineup while also gaining a time advantage before NVIDIA’s RTX 60 series arrives. Given the ongoing GPU pricing pressure driven by memory shortages, an earlier competitive option would be welcome news for PC gamers looking for more choices in the market. This is definitely a development worth watching as the GPU landscape continues to evolve.
