Ace Combat 8 Online Mode ACE COMBAT ONLINE Revealed Ahead of Launch

Bandai Namco Entertainment has released new information about ACE COMBAT ONLINE, the multiplayer component of the upcoming Ace Combat 8: Wings of Xifu (空战奇兵8 希孚之翼). Announced on September 2, the details arrived alongside a promotional video for the mode, which the publisher describes as the largest online experience in the series’ history. Players step into shared lobbies as mercenary pilots, joining flight combat fans from around the world for cooperative and competitive play. The online mode is a fully independent experience, with its own progression and save data separate from the single-player campaign. Ace Combat 8 is scheduled to launch on October 2, 2026.
Online lobbies can host up to 100 pilots at once, giving players a space for more than just matchmaking. Pilots can create and customize their own avatars, communicate with fellow pilots from across the globe, and obtain and upgrade fighter aircraft. An in-lobby arcade also lets players enjoy classic Namco titles, while additional facilities and entertainment are built around enriching the mercenary lifestyle. Together, these amenities aim to make every visit to the lobby a fun part of the online experience.

Two core mission types anchor ACE COMBAT ONLINE. Co-Op Assault brings together two four-player squads that cooperate while competing for the highest score, while Co-Op Warfare sends two four-player squads against NPC forces across land, sea, and air. Occasional special operations, including Scramble and Emergency Sortie, can occur at any time. Periodic event missions with special rules such as aircraft restrictions — Team Deathmatch and Deathmatch — provide opportunities to earn generous rewards and raise the mercenary rank.

Beyond the online hub, Ace Combat 8’s campaign casts players as a fighter pilot rescued at sea by the aging carrier Endurance. In July 2029, the Federation of Central Usea (FCU) has lost much of its territory to a lightning invasion. Aboard the ship, the pilot is entrusted with the FCU capital’s name — a celebrated title whose reputation is not what it seems. Flying with three new partners, the player fights to reclaim lost land. The franchise, with over 21 million copies sold, uses the proprietary Cloudly engine to recreate a 10,000-square-kilometer sky with layered clouds, contrails, and real-world fighter jets. Between its largest online mode yet and a story of a fabricated hero, it is one to watch this October.
